Achievement Gaps Over Time: State-by-State

4th Grade Reading Scale Scores, 1998-2002

Where are achievement gaps narrowing?

The following tables show by how many points the gap between African American and White students and Latino and White students narrowed or grew on the National Assessment of Educational Progress between 1998 and 2002.  The tables only include those states that participated in both years and had enough members of each student group in the testing sample. Keep in mind that you want to see gaps shrinking, therefore a negative number in the change column is a good thing.
