Legislative Analyst


The Education Trust seeks a Legislative Analyst to support the organization’s division of Government Affairs and Communications.  Founded in 1992, The Education Trust works for the high academic achievement of all students, pre-kindergarten through college, with the goal of closing the gaps in opportunity and achievement that separate low-income students and students of color from other youth.  For additional information on The Education Trust, please visit www.edtrust.org.

 

Reporting to the Vice President for Government Affairs and Communications, the Legislative Analyst will provide intellectual support and legislative expertise for The Education Trust’s federal policy recommendations.  

Major Responsibilities

 

The Legislative Analyst’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Provide policy support to the organization’s Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications, specifically around legislative and regulatory issues with bearing on The Education Trust’s agenda.
  • Track and review federal legislative and regulatory proposals that are relevant to The Education Trust’s agenda; draft summaries and analysis of proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Program and Policy team to monitor federal, state, and local education policy activities to inform The Education Trust’s federal policy recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of legislative proposals including the drafting of legislative language and the writing of collateral materials relevant to the organization’s legislative priorities.
  • Develop systems to continually track, organize, and report concisely information relevant to federal legislative priorities -- from a variety of sources, including pending legislation, media reports, and reports from think tanks, academic research and other advocacy organizations.
  • Create materials to communicate and build support for the organization’s legislative priorities among a variety of audiences.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • A minimum of five years in the work force, three of those years as a legislative analyst.
  • A demonstrable knowledge of federal education policy. 
  • Strong analytic and research skills.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge principles of data analysis and statistics.
  • At least a bachelor’s degree, advanced degree a plus.

 

Compensation

 

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.  The Education Trust offers a comprehensive benefits package.
