    The Education Trust West (ETW) seeks a full-time Senior Associate/Teacher-in-Residence to help focus the work of teaching and learning inside districts on closing the achievement gap. The Senior Associate/Teacher-in-Residence will work to ensure that all students have access to a rigorous curriculum and will help drive EdTrust—West’s “College-Prep for All” efforts in schools and districts throughout California and Nationwide.

    The Education Trust—West works for the high academic achievement of all students at all levels, kindergarten through college, and forever closing the achievement gaps that separate low-income students and students of color from other youth.     Major Responsibilities

    Deliver and enhance the tools—practices and understandings—for district-level reform working within a policy framework that advocates for a quality education for all students. This includes:

    • Facilitating and helping lead team work and professional development for teachers, counselors, and district leaders;
    • Collecting and interpreting data, including analysis of high school transcripts, master schedules, and other pertinent artifacts;
    • Using data effectively to guide practice work;
    • Monitoring the effectiveness of practices, using data and other resources;
    • Assisting in the alignment of standards, assessments, curriculum, and instruction; and,
    • Researching effective reform efforts to inform decisions and practices.

     

    Additionally, the Senior Associate/Teacher-in-Residence will:

     

    • Help guide the reform efforts of educational communities working to provide college-prep curriculum for students;
    • Develop and refine a tool kit for district-level implementation of college-prep curriculum for all students;
    • Assist in the coordination of the work of high school leadership teams and district staff in partner districts in creating a blue print for high school reform;
    • Conduct “A-G audits” in partner districts as a first step in their reform process;
    • Assist in the development of public engagement strategies in partner districts, including focus groups, community conversations and surveys;
    • Facilitate and lead the work of reform committees in partner districts;
    • Conduct data presentations and awareness sessions with districts and organizations around EdTrust—West’s work with high school reform;
    • Conduct professional development workshops for teachers, parents and community groups related to college readiness; and,
    • Additional duties assigned as needed.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Has a passion for ETW mission;
    • Extensive knowledge of state and federal education programs and local education systems;
    • Ability to help lead district and school leadership through the process of change and renewal;
    • Skilled and seasoned problem solver pertaining to classroom and larger, systematic issues;
    • Creativity and initiative to seek out new approaches and contacts;
    • Willingness to learn and consider alternative viewpoints in an effort to design effective school programs;
    • Literacy (English, reading, social studies) and/or math (general, secondary or science) teaching background;
    • Ability to work and build trust with diverse communities
    • Excellent communication, writing, and computer skills;
    • Willingness to travel inside and outside California (must posses drivers license);
    • Undergraduate degree required, Masters preferred. Spanish fluency desired; and,
    • At least 5 years as a secondary classroom teacher with at least 2 of those years in California.

    Compensation

    Salary is commensurate with experience, within the parameters of the Education Trust compensation scale. EXCELLENT benefits package provided.
