     The Education Trust--West works for the high academic achievement of all students at all levels, kindergarten through college, and forver closing the achievement gaps that seperate low-income students and students of color from other youth.  Our basic tenet is this - All children will learn at high levels when they are taught to high levels.

    Communications and Outreach Intern

    The Education Trust—West is seeking a Communications and Outreach Intern. The Communications and Outreach Intern will work directly with EdTrust—West’s Outreach Manager and all other staff to assist the organization in developing its communication and outreach objectives in the area of advancing the college and career ready for all agenda. The internship will provide opportunities to assist in the following areas:

     

    Job Duties:

    §  Follow and disseminate relevant education coverage through the assembly of Daily Clips

    §  Manage and continuously build media and contacts database.

    §  Aid in the development of materials for ETW such as press kits, user-friendly materials, component brochures and content for website pages

    §  Generally assist the Outreach Manager with coordination and administrative activities as needed.

    §  Forge close relationships with community-based organizations, community organizers, and advocates to further The Education Trust-West’s achievement and opportunity gap-closing efforts.

    §  Collaborate with The Education Trust—West’s policy/data analysts and educators to ensure that the information is accurate and timely when developing materials and delivering this information for public consumption.

    §  Establish regular contact with parents and community groups, through a variety of vehicles, including regular e-mails and a parent and community newsletter.

     

    Qualifications:

    §  Experience with and ability to balance multiple demands and deadlines with composure.

    §  Knowledge of or ability to expeditiously learn issues relevant to education and the achievement gap.

    §  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Communications degree preferred)

    §  2-3 years experience in communications and media relations

    §  2-3 years experience in community organizing.

    §  Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, are essential.

    §  Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential, as is familiarity with the Internet.

    The program is designed for graduate students or exceptional undergraduates capable of doing staff level work under minimal supervision. Applicants should be serious-minded, highly motivated individuals. Interns are treated as members of the staff and are expected to perform a wide variety of tasks in addition to those mentioned above. Interns are exposed to all aspects of the work of the Education Trust—West while focusing on specific projects working directly with professional staff.

    The Education Trust--West

    Data and Policy Analyst Intern
    (This intern position is currently filled, but ETW accepts intern applications all year round, so please feel free to submit your information and we will keep it on file.)

    The Education Trust—West is seeking a Data/Policy Analyst Intern. The Data/Policy Analyst Intern will work directly with EdTrust—West’s Senior Data and Policy Analyst, Director, and all other staff to review research and conduct policy analysis related to the organization’s core mission.  The internship will provide opportunities to:

     

    §  Actively Seek out, read, and summarize publicly available research reports that address education topics in California, primarily focusing on student achievement, achievement gaps, and policies aimed at closing gaps.

    §  Track state and federal legislation that is relevant to the organization’s core mission.

    §  Brief Executive Director and other staff on findings from research and legislative tracking “package” data in formats designed for lay audiences, including Ed Trust—West’s website and PowerPoint presentations.

     

    A mix of strong analytical, research, and communication skills is essential for fulfilling these responsibilities.  Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in education issues, and experience in education research or policy analysis is strongly desired.  Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential, as is familiarity with the Internet.

    The program is designed for graduate students or exceptional undergraduates capable of doing staff level work under minimal supervision. Applicants should be serious-minded, highly motivated individuals. Interns are treated as members of the staff and are expected to perform a wide variety of tasks in addition to those mentioned above. Interns are exposed to all aspects of the work of the Education Trust—West while focusing on specific projects working directly with professional staff.

    English Language Learner Specialist Intern

    The Education Trust—West is seeking an English Language Learner (ELL) Specialist Intern. The ELL Specialist Intern will work directly with EdTrust—West’s Director, Senior Associate and all other staff to assist the organization in developing its policy and advocacy agenda in the area of ELL education. The internship will provide opportunities to:

     

    • Actively seek out, read, and summarize publicly available reports that address ELLs in California, primarily focusing on student achievement, achievement gaps, and policies aimed at closing those gaps.
    • Track relevant state and federal legislation
    • Brief Executive Director and other staff on findings from research and legislative tracking
    • “Package” data in formats designed for lay audiences, including EdTrust’s website and PowerPoint presentations.

     

    In addition to the above responsibilities, the ELL Specialist Intern also is strongly encouraged to proactively generate new ideas to help the Education Trust—West strengthen its advocacy efforts on behalf of ELLs in California.
