SIP: Getting Started
How many schools should be involved?
We recommend starting with a small subset of schools and then gradually increasing the number as success builds. If we specifically train school district personnel to train others, the district can take over the training itself.
What is the first step?
Education Trust staff and consultants train coaches, facilitators, and team members for two days in the six-step Standards in Practice™ process. Education Trust staff and consultants then return for regular on-site visits to teams at their schools and consult with district administrators on progress.
There are several possible configurations to this work— ranging from basic introductory sessions to longer term, ongoing support. Please contact us to decide what model might be best for you.
What do we need from you?
Principals from participating schools agree to:
Ø create time for teams to meet during professional hours;
Ø provide an instructional coach to schedule and facilitate meetings; and,
Ø participate at least semi-regularly in meetings.
School district administrators agree to:
Ø fund coaches (at least one for every four schools) to visit teams regularly; and,
Ø ensure that Standards in Practice™ is integrated into the larger professional development strategy and focus for those schools involved in SIP.
How much does Standards in Practice™ cost?
Please contact us to discuss costs and contract options. We can arrange annual contracts including monthly visits to teams and training for administrators, school board members, parents, and teams of teachers.
