Building Broad Public Understanding and Support for a Universal College Ready Standard:  Taking a Proactive Role with the Media

Presenter:

Fredreka Schouten, Senior Associate and Director of Public Outreach, The Education Trust

Some system leaders won’t wait to think about a media strategy until every element of their policy agenda is in place.  And they won’t simply delegate this task to their communications staff.  Rather, they’ll think hard about how to generate coverage of the problems for which alignment is the solution, and about how to mobilize a broad range of “champions” to help argue the case.  This session will help system leaders to think through their roles in the development of a strategy to build public understanding and support.
