The Education Trust’s National Center for Transforming School Counseling invites you to register for its ninth annual summer academy to be held Thursday, June 5 - Saturday, June 7, 2008, in St. Louis.

This year’s summer academy will engage the attendees in a meaningful examination of the number-one issue currently facing all educators: Taking on the Challenge of College and Career Readiness for All Students. Research tells us that the same level of rigorous preparation is required for success in both college and careers. To thrive in today’s global economy, all students will need some type of post-secondary education experience—whether an apprenticeship, technical training, or a college degree. School counselors are unique educators who bring distinctive skills to the school improvement efforts. They also have vast knowledge of student, teacher and community strengths and needs that is critical to the success of any school improvement efforts designed to bring about equitable academic outcomes for all groups of students.

This academy will focus on the school counselor’s role in ensuring that all pre-K-12 students are successful in a rigorous curriculum that prepares them to be successful after high school. Interactive and informative sessions will offer participants an opportunity to learn directly from school counselor educators, school counselors, administrators, school district supervisors and state department of education employees about how school counselors can help ensure that every student is prepared for college and career. Presenters will share data on effective strategies and offer concrete examples for improving access, equity and success for all students.
